Welcome to the third installment of my series on High Point Market Fall 2019. In this blog I am going to focus on manufacturers of Lighting and Outdoor Furniture. While on the Design Bloggers Tour we visited 2 lighting showrooms and 2 outdoor furniture showrooms.
First the lighting: I think this is one of the most overlooked categories by both designers and clients. Lighting sets the tone for a room and the correct light fixture can also serve as a beautiful piece of art or sculpture.
Hudson Valley Lighting was like a fresh breath of air. The fixtures were light and airy with natural elements that will bring life to your home. The company has four divisions: Hudson Valley Lighting, Mitzi, Troy Lighting and Corbett Lighting. They offer everything from contemporary to classic and pricing from extremely affordable to lighting that will serve as a center piece to your room with a price to match. One of my favorite collections was by designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard. No one does Hollywood Glam better than Mr. Bullard. For his collection for Corbett Lighting he says: “I wanted to design fixtures that grabbed the imagination: pieces that would not only fill a space with perfect lighting but that would become the focal point of the spaces they will live in. Statements that are at once beautiful, thought provoking and provide just the right magic.” My sentiments exactly. Hubbardton Forge is an American Made company produced in Vermont. For more than 45 years Hubbardton Forge artisans have handcrafted each product, one at a time. They believe doing things the right way is the only way to do business. “We make heirlooms, not landfill.” I saw some of their newest creations. The Rain collection uses exclusive integrated LED Crystals from Swarovski. The crystals are lit from within by a new patented LED technology. This technology creates an elegant, ethereal and mysterious feel that will set your room apart from everyone else. They also introduced the Abacus 5-light Pendant. It features five blown glass globes that move up and down their low voltage cable by virtue of tiny grippers on each side. Both introductions were fresh and inventive. I can’t wait to use them in my next project. Check out their website HUBBARDTONFORGE.COM and their Instagram @hubbardtonforge.
In today’s homes we are seeing more and more outdoor entertaining areas. Especially in warmer climates you will see outdoor kitchens and eating areas as well as covered and outdoor patios. As a designer I think it is just as important to address these outdoor spaces as it is to address the interior rooms. Two of my favorite outdoor furniture manufacturers are Lloyd Flanders and Sifas. Both offer extremely different looks that are both classic and modern.
Lloyd Flanders is manufactured in the same facility where they have been crafting heirloom furniture since 1906 in Menominee Michigan. They have a patented process called Lloyd Loom. This technology has created a continuous strand that will not burr, crack or peel, resulting in a consistently smooth weave. Lloyd Flanders offers a unique selection of vinyl all weather furnishings. From classic to modern elegance their vinyl collections represent the best of traditional, transitional and contemporary decor. This is outdoor furniture that is built to last. Their website is LLOYDFLANDERS.COM and their Instagram @lloyd_flanders.
Sifas, a Cannes-based brand has been designing outdoor furniture for over 50 years. Sifas takes its inspiration from its heartland, the Riviera, and from the regions glory years. This year’s Riviera Collection has a more contemporary vibe emphasizing a feeling of luxury and elegance. The Riviera collection uses a few different techniques to achieve the look and feel of grace and elegance. They use a printed aluminum design that is printed on film and transferred to the aluminum. They also use a braided polyester coated with a layer of PVC to repel water. My favorite technique used in this collection was a braided rope and tube polyester. The braided rope had a bohemian chic feel that I love. Sifas Riviera Collection has a great look and feel that lends itself to a modern day oasis. Well thats a rap for my 3 part series on High Point Market Fall 2019. I had a great time on the Design Bloggers Tour and got to visit some great manufacturers. I also had the pleasure to meet some other great designers that I am now proud to call friends. In closing out this series I want to encourage you to attend Market if you haven’t already. It is truly Design Mecca for those of us in the business.
I am off to Miami to attend Art Basel. I can’t wait to tell you all about it in my next blog!
